Welcome to From the Psychologist’s Chair: a place for curious minds.
Twice a month I take an issue that I have seen in the therapy room and look at it from 3 different angles. Or from 3 different chairs.
From the counselling psychologist’s chair to develop your psychological flexibility.
From the life coach’s chair to give you insights, tools and exercises to process.
From the emotional nutrition chair to help nourish your brain and your self-care.
It's all part of my 360 degree self-development philosophy.
A bit more about me:
I’m Evelyn Montgomery a psychologist, counsellor and coach MBPsS MBACP BSc (Hons) Psych with a private practice in Hampshire, UK.
I’m also the CEO and founder of pioneering mental health nutritional supplement brand, M+E.
My academic story was driven by my need to heal + to keep learning. And my first project, to make sense of me.
After studying psychology at university I started to heal my own life by slowly changing my narrative. I saw things from a completely new perspective. A complete reframe.
It was just the beginning. I wanted to find all the other jigsaw pieces that helped me to understand myself. Every time I discovered a new idea I felt uplifted. It was another step to self-acceptance.
I went from one course to another studying Life Coaching, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Counselling and Psychotherapy. Eventually becoming a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
All while bringing up my young family as a single parent.
Nutritional Psychology became my area of special interest. This is the study of how nutrients directly affect the structure + function of your brain which impacts on your moods, how you feel + how you think. I call it Mood Nutrition.
Helping my clients learn about their trauma and attachment patterns, their burn out tendencies and their stress responses I have been able to be able to lift their mood, reduce their anxiety + boost their energy filling them with feelings of self-control, empowerment + hope.
Biohacking my brain + mental health also included becoming aware of the role of:
feelings + emotions and what we do with them
learning about where we hold trauma and the poly vagal nervous system
how attachment patterns impact every relationship
learning about the healing power of breathing + visualisation exercises
exploring the effects of moving your body and physical exercise
how nutrients directly affect the structure + function of our brains which impacts on our moods, how we feel + how we think
learning how being outside in nature soothes our nervous system
finding the benefits of creativity + fun + connection
while underlying all of this discovering that self-acceptance + self-care are the cornerstones of mental health.

Hi Evelyn,
In your experience what is the key in preventing depression relapse?
I think for most of us who have suffered depression the thought of relapse is our worst fear! It can also be quite mysterious and unexpected as to its re-occurence.
Does science and biology hold any clues?
Love your website.
Namaste
